A LONG LOST FRIEND.  FOUND.

One of the great things about taking time off is being able to reconnect with old friends - childhood buddies who we have the fondest memories of, but fell out of touch with through time and circumstance.

I was super delighted to meet up with Michelle in Shanghai.  We used to carpool to tuition classes together!  I was vaguely aware she was in Shanghai, through bits of third or fourth hand information transmitted through family and friends.  So I decided to look her up while I was in town.

Lo and behold, Mich's gotten hitched; and she's got this incredibly adorable baby.  And although its been a decade since we last spoke, we caught up like it was yesterday.  Amazing that so much has happened, yet so little has changed.

As compensation for her, and David's, overwhelming generosity in buying me lunch, tea and cooking dinner, I offered to be Baby Ellie's portrait photographer for the afternoon.  Judging by how great she looks in photos, I'm sure there'll be lots of more talented people lining up to do this for free soon, or at some point.  Watch out!

Now, I'm more of a still life guy, you know - inanimate objects.  And babies, well, they don't come more animated than that!  Still, I hope I did justice to Baby Ellie's first official portfolio :)  With Mich's blessing:

Another long lost friend! The blog thing is really working out! No problemo Debs. I posted a visa section earlier, but no details yet on border crossings. Will definitely share once I get across the Stans. Probably in June/July. Hope that's ok for you? In any case you can get my number from Mich. Happy to chat further.

Looks like the complicated crossings are China-Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan. The rest seem ok.
